ROBERT’S DAY
IN THE LIFE!

Robert’s Employee Spotlight

We spoke to Robert to find out what his typical day at work looks like, find out for yourself below!

My typical day starts bright and early at 7 AM, though I sometimes come in earlier, especially on Saturdays when I’m here by 6 AM. The first thing I do is open up the yard—turning on the heating, the lights, and the coffee machine to get everything warmed up and ready. Then, I take a moment to mop the yard to clear away any debris or rubbish.

After that, I do a quick walk around the yard and check in on the warehouses to ensure that all fire exits are clear. Once I’m done with that, I meet up with Frank to discuss the jobs for the day. My role is quite dynamic; I coordinate with team members and oversee daily tasks, ensuring effective communication and smooth operations throughout the yard. I also manage interactions with contractors and ensure the security of the site while handling anyone coming in.

In the evenings, I switch off everything in the buildings and make sure there’s someone to close up. On days when I’m tidying up the yard, I’ve clocked up to 42,000 steps!

My responsibilities are diverse. I handle the upkeep of the yard, help manage the day-to-day operations and take care of maintenance tasks. I’m also a fire warden and first aider, which adds to my duties of ordering supplies, painting, and managing PPE, along with keeping the coffee and water stocked.

During my lunch breaks, I like to sit with the rest of the team. I always head to the van for lunch and enjoy the downtime with the boys.

The most challenging part of my day is trying to fit all the jobs into one day—there’s always so much to do! However, I feel most accomplished when I can complete the tasks assigned to me and look back at the work I’ve done. To keep everything organized, I write down my tasks in a notepad, which helps me stay on track.
