John G Russell is a leading provider in the rail freight industry, dedicated to delivering efficient and reliable transportation solutions. Due to expansion, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Rail Shunter to join our dynamic rail team within our Coatbridge Depot and support our mission of excellence in service.

As a Rail Shunter, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our rail freight terminal. You will be responsible for arriving, examining, shunting and departing intermodal trains ensuring that all vehicles, loads comply with industry rail standards and company policies. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and is Safety Critical, attention to detail is required at all times.

What does the job involve?

You will carry out a variety of duties including:

  • Shunting and Marshalling of Freight Trains.
  • Train Examination and Preparation of Freight Trains.

Full training will be provided in all activities before these are undertaken independently.

Key Skills (Essential)

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience;

  • Personal Track Safety Trained (PTS)
  • Freight Train Shunting experience.
  • Freight Train Examination experience.
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Customer focussed
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Attention to detail
