A warm welcome to Craig Davidson who joined the company in February as Business Development Manager. Find out more from Craig below!

1. What is your role within the Group?

My role involves prospecting new opportunities, managing key accounts and collaborating with our Business Units. I also visit customers and other group sites to ensure we are delivering the best service across the country.

2. What does your typical day look like?

Right now, no two days are the same! Due to the scale of the business I’m still building my knowledge of the company’s processes and my colleague’s roles. My time is split between prospecting for new business, account management and working with the Business Units and Customers whether face-to-face or by phone.

3. How are you enjoying your role?

I’m really enjoying it. John G Russell’s strong industry presence and focus on sustainability and innovation are impressive. Initiatives like performance KPI reports and carbon tracking benefit both customers and the commercial team in delivering their promises. Additionally our strong marketing team, closely aligned with sales, provides great support in driving the business forward.

4. What drew you to begin working with JGR?

I was attracted by the company’s reputation and future growth plans, especially in rail freight. Progressive developments like the formation of Russell Rail Road Ltd were particularly appealing, as was the chance to expand my experience across different transport modes and sectors. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important across all industries and the group are well-positioned to lead in this area, which made joining the team even more attractive.

5. What are your future plans for the business?

By tapping into the vast experience here and bringing my own gained over the years in the industry I’m keen to contribute to the continued growth of the company. Like any long-standing business - particularly in the logistics sector, there’s always room to evolve. I see great potential in building on our already strong initiatives and refreshing parts of the commercial side of the business to improve customer experience and supply chain efficiency.

6. If you never had to work again, how would you spend your time?

With two young kids and a busy family life outside of work I’m sure that would take up a lot of my time! I’d also enjoy holidays, golf, football and other hobbies, but I’d definitely miss the buzz of the logistics world!
