Data Engineer

We are currently looking to recruit a Data Engineer to join the team and play a critical role in the company. A brand-new role in the Solution Delivery function, reporting to the Solution Delivery Manager, the Data Engineer at JGR will be a key asset in executing the business’ data integration and BI strategy.

The company is going through an exciting phase of business systems improvement initiatives and investing in a number of new technologies which needs to be supported by the right resources and skills.

Supporting the Solution Delivery Manager, the Data Engineer will play a leading role in the delivery of new business information systems projects, ultimately delivering integrated warehousing, logistics, and transport information systems.

They will need to assess and deliver business and operational efficiency opportunities through the use of integrated data processing, error handling, and KPI / data visualisation by reducing duplication, and presenting relevant insights to key personnel. Pro-Actively seek improvement opportunities by working with key business users to assess operational pain points and deliver improvements through the use of data.

The Russell Group is an expanding privately owned company which predominantly offers a range of end-to-end supply chain services by road, rail and sea.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and deliver business and operational efficiency opportunities through the use of integrated data processing and error handling.
  • Take a lead role in the implementation of a new central reporting hub for centralised KPI’s and data insights.
  • Automate and manage the collection of data and data flows between line of business applications and centralised reports.
  • Automate manual data processing flows between line of business applications and group applications.
  • Pro-Actively seek data processing and automation opportunities by working with key business users to assess and overcome operational pain points in relation to the use of company data.
  • Document and maintain all documentation, references, and support routines for all existing EDI and data pipelines within the group.
  • Routinely monitor and audit the suitability of EDI and data pipelines with a view to prompt resolution of issues and addressing root causes.
  • Routinely audit the suitability of data toolsets in line with the latest industry technologies and pro-actively identify and drive new improvement opportunities.
  • Routinely monitor and optimise SQL server health by performing regular health checks and managing maintenance schedules.
  • Supporting business change through effective change management processes within a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide expert data engineering and data services support to the Solution Delivery manager as needed on future company initiatives and projects.

Key Capabilities:

  • Support, development, and management of relational database management systems
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Data Modelling and ETL routines
  • Experience of SQL Server Data Tools or Azure ETL
  • Delivered production solutions utilising both SSIS and / or SSAS.
  • Datawarehousing
  • Proven experience of EDI and the automation of Data Processing
  • Experience C#, Python, R (or equivalent language for data engineering) would be advantageous.
  • Experience with the use of third-party data transformation toolsets would be advantageous.
  • Flexible approach to work, able to manage own priorities and workload.
  • Able to effectively influence the team.
  • Used to operating at all levels and people within the organisation.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills - result orientated and tenacious.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
